Fighting dragons: an open letter to graduating seniors

By: First year student, Sherri Brunner

Wow! Where did the time go…an hour ago you were in your bedroom fighting dragons, the next minute you were getting your braces off, a second ago you stepped onto Carlow’s campus as a student, excited to start the next chapter of your life. Can you remember coming in as a freshman? College was fun, new, and exciting! I know graduating can be scary, you may be worried about entering the real world, starting a new life. Sometimes, don’t you wish you could go back and do it all again? Do you wish you could go back and do things differently? Do you wish you could go back to fighting those dragons?

Well my advice is: Don’t! Take the amazing moments and remember them forever. Let the memories fill up inside you and bring you joy and happiness. The world out there may be scary, but you can do it! Carlow has prepared you for the bumps in the road. Carlow has taught you how to think differently, appreciate fresh perspectives, and work with new people (even when you have hated it).  Because of this, you’ve become a well-rounded, educated individual. Carlow has taught you how to battle the real dragons, how to defend yourself in any situation.

Class of 2016, you will be missed. On behalf of all Carlow University students, we hope that you continue to thrive and enjoy your bright, shiny futures. Be the best people you can be, and set forth toward greatness. We tip our hats to you, class of 2016. We have had the time of our lives fighting dragons with you.
