PPG Place’s Annual Ice Rink in Downtown Pittsburgh

Written by Kaitlyn Stamm

If you are looking for a fun activity while staying safe, look no further than PPG Place. Every year in downtown Pittsburgh, PPG Place opens an ice rink from November through March.

To ensure COVID-19 guidelines are followed, temperature checks are performed at the entrance and all individuals are asked to maintain six feet apart. They also set up time sessions to ensure a safe skating environment. Almost every time session is an hour and 45 minutes with a 45-minute overlap. They also require masks to be worn at all times.

Although the holiday season has passed, PPG has a variety of promotions available to individuals to keep skating exciting. Tuesdays are family skate nights, Wednesdays are student skate nights, and they offer lunch time passes on a monthly basis. All these promotions come with discounts for children and students with more discounts depending on the number of individuals in the group.

This year they will have their annual Valentine Skate on Feb. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. Although tickets for this time slot are already sold out, there are still some available for earlier in the day. Tickets must be bought in advance here.

Right beside the ice rink, there is a concession stand with warm soft pretzels and hot chocolate.

This is a perfect event for Valentine’s Day and the last few weeks of winter in downtown Pittsburgh!
