Celebrating the Centennial: 100 Years of Sigma Tau Delta

Written by Keegan Flanagan

At the beginning of April, the English Honors Society (Sigma Tau Delta) celebrated its one-hundredth anniversary, hosting their yearly conference in celebration of this momentous occasion.

As with previous conferences, students from across the country were invited to submit their works throughout the year, ranging from fiction and poetry to critical essays and scholarly papers. This year, Carlow University was fortunate enough to have four students selected to share their work at the convention in St. Louis, Missouri. These students presented their work to an audience of similarly interested students and alumni from universities across the states.

The conference, which ran from April 1 to 4, featured panels and special guests from all literary backgrounds, as well as several special events including a ‘bad poetry’ competition, open mic, and literary pub trivia.

Two Carlow University students were honored with first and second place in the bad poetry contest respectively! Though it’s unclear if that’s cause for celebration or concern. Regardless, we are hopeful that Carlow can continue to achieve such incredible acclaim.

We hope to see our Carlow Sigma Tau Delta members submit for next year’s conference and encourage you to visit the Sigma Tau Delta webpage for more information.
